Asgard is the ancestral home of the Asgardians, mighty warriors of myth and legend.

When the [[Demiurge]] burst to awareness, many fundamental energies collided and clashed across dozens of planetary systems. Nine realms in particular manifested quite near to one another. On frigid [[Niffleheim]], the ancient entity called [[Ymir]] creaked to life. On burning [[Muspelheim]], [[Surtr]] was kindled into awareness. From the conflict of energies, life seeded itself across the other worlds-- this collection of demesnes, so closely linked, would be called [[The Nine Realms]]. Save Earth, known as Midgard, no realms were closer to the roots of [[Yggdrasil]].

In dim antiquity, Ymir fathered a great warrior, named [[Buri]]. Buri, The First, would be the first [[New God|News Gods]] to occupy the land known as Asgard-- Father of the Aesir. His three sons-- [[Bor]], [[Njord]], and [[Mimir]], would follow in his footsteps. Njord fathered the [[Vanir]], becoming the ruler of the lands of [[Vanaheim]]. Mimir became a sage, itinerant and ever-wandering in search of knowledge. Bor would serve as the strong right arm of Asgard's armies, projecting their military might across the galaxy in defense of the World Tree and directly confronting the nascent [[Kryptonian Hegemony]]. Asgard's victories would cement her reputation across the cosmos.

Four thousand years after the collapse of the Kryptonian Empire, Bor discovered that his father was not a servant of the Aesir, but a servant of the ancient inhabitants of [[Oa]]. Challenging his father to combat, Bor was victorious. Buri was banished and Bor became King of the Aesir, Ruler of Asgard and, therefore, Guardian of the Nine Realms.

A score of centuries passed before Asgard marched en masse for war once again. The encroachments of the [[Kree]] Empire became intolerabe, and Bor lead his armies to bloody battle and conquest. So effective was their campaign that Bor turned his eyes towards more ambitious foes: Oa, his father's puppetmaster.

Bor's ambition led to Asgard's downfall. Oa's response was to trigger [[Ragnarok]], breaking magic across the World Tree. Asgard in particular was nearly obliterated by the cataclysm. Many of the Aesir perished and the grand, Golden City of Asgard was leveled to the ground. Only a handful of the Aesir survived. In shame, Bor exiled himself to ancient lost lands, and his son [[Odin]] claimed the throne.

After the Demiurge was restored, Asgard began to reach her former might. Odin's son [[Thor]] would become the heir apparent, and reclaim Asgard's reputation in the universe.
