Claire Voyant was born in 1918 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. At 18 years old, she witnessed the horrific murder of her sister at the hand of Chicago mobsters, while in Illinois. Stricken with grief, Claire petitioned any entity in earshot for the means to extract her revenge on the murderers. Bearing a visage commonly associated with [[Satan|Lucifer]], the demonic entity known as [[Mephisto]] manifested and bonded Claire's soul with the demon known as [[Zarathos]]. Claire became an instrument of Mephisto's will, killing people who had made Faustian bargains with that entity and who reneged on their pledge to sell their [[soul]] to Mephisto.

In 1940 Claire was recruited into the secret society known as Roosevelt's Mystery Men, aka the [[Great Lakes Defenders]]. By day she used her supernatural talents to hunt down [[Purifier]] collaborators in America. By night, she hunted for Mephisto.

In 1942 Claire was transferred to the European Command to help address [[HYDRA]]'s increasing grasp of occult and magic. She was captured in a German trap and placed into suspended animation for several decades.

When she was recovered from her sleep in 2017, Mephisto once more bonded her with the essence of one of his mightiest demonic servants and directed her to continue her unending harvest of souls belonging by right to him.
