Vampirism: genetic or mystical affliction?

Genetic (Dresden, Blade): Hominus Nocturne, retroviral infection passed along by consumption or transfusion of vampire blood. The change usually takes a week and is consummated by the act of consuming human blood.

Mystical (Anne Rice, WoD) : Consuming vampire blood kills the human body and resurrects it moments later. The change happens fairly swiftly.
