Weapon X suggested taking the research conducted by Weapon Plus and CADMUS and unifying it under a specific umbrella of genetic research and development. An agreement with Canada's [[Department K]] allowed the US Government to operate an otherwise illegal research facility outside of US soil. &lt;br /&gt;

Weapon X made great strides, but audits revealed that the research being conducted was barbaric sadism. An ethics review board was sufficiently alarmed that the joint US/Canadian operation was shuttered. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This did not stop Hudson and Essex from continuing their work in secret. Former Weapon Plus subjects were kidnapped against their will and experimented upon. In the late 1970s, [[Logan Howlett]] was kidnapped and his bones forcibly fused with adamantium. Though he survived and slashed his way free, Weapon X was able to reproduce their results on multiple other mutants. Essex and Hudson funded their work by catering to covert operatives in the United States and abroad. Subjects of their work included [[Yuriko Oyama]] and [[Victor Creed]]. Several Weapon X assets were picked up by the DEO and assigned to the black bag group called Task Force: X ([[Suicide Squad]]).&lt;br /&gt;

Upon discovering the talented Dr. Killebrew in the early 2000s, the Weapon X department created the 'Hospice' facility. Under the guise of offering experimental medical therapy to the chronically ill, Dr. Killebrew and his associate [[Francis Fanny]] transported individuals to Weapon X and performed radical gene therapies in an attempt to trigger a metagene crisis. The last of the Hospice guests was the mercenary known as [[Wade Wilson]]. His parting gift to Hospice was the destruction of that facility. &lt;br /&gt;
