In 2014, machinations ten thousand years in the making culminated in Thanos making a bid for the [[Infinity Stones]]. A handful of heroes banded together and pursued him across space and time, but too late to stop him from assembling a complete Infinity Gauntlet. Using the assembled superweapon Thanos annihilated half of the sentient life in the universe in an attempt to please [[Endless Death|Death]].  Instead, she spurned him for interrupting the proper cycle of life and death. The Infinity Gauntlet was taken from Thanos by force and used to reset the flow of time to before 'The Snap', leaving only a few higher-order beings with the knowledge of the alternate chronology. The Infinity Stones were then distributed across space and time once again.

Thanos of Titan once held the entirety of the universe in the palm of his hand.

Thanos was a 'Divergent' Eternal, an evolutionary wildcard and an unexpected product of Celestial breeding programs. He was born on Saturn's moon of Titan and dwelt in their colony of Titanos for thousands of years. Nearly 750,000 years ago, Thanos was exiled from his home for high crimes and atrocities. He returned at the head of an army and virtually annihilated his existing relatives. Only a hundred Eternals survived before Thanos' army was routed.

Of the bounty of the universe, Thanos sought only two things: absolute dominion over all life and the affections of Death. He engaged in warfare and cunning political schemes that spanned millennia. If a particularly potent item he desired was held too closely by some foreign agent or species, Thanos would simply bide his time until they inevitably died or collapsed under their own weight. In time he amassed a mighty army of sycophantic followers and potent subordinates.

Some 500,000 years ago, Thanos attempted to replicate the research of the early Oans and pierce the veil of reality to subvert the creation of the entire universe. For his arrogance he was rebuked by and his access to the Power Cosmic vastly limited. He turned to military conquest after that and frequently clashed with the Skrulls, Kree, Oa, and other spacefaring civilizations. He contributed to the rise of the Citadel and the collapse of the Tamaranean Empire.
