Blade was born Eric Brooks in London, 1929. His mother was bitten by a vampire while pregnant. The presence of a toxic agent combined with birth triggered a rare metagene crisis, and Eric was born a dhampir-- half-human, half-vampire. All their strengths, none of their weaknesses.
Eric ended up in Chicago in 1980, as a tumultuous cosmic convergence caused a surge of paranormal activity. Vampire populations exploded, and the hunter found himself quite busy. A loose coalition of sympathetic allies formed, aimed at combating the tide of undead expansion. After the convergence passed, the team disbanded and Eric returned to hunting less-than-humans.
