Setting

Purpose of Setting

The purpose of theme and setting is to provide a framing device for a narrative, not to enslave the narrative to it. Please consider the information below a tool for your roleplay. It is meant to give people a common frame of reference for their roleplay, rather than constrict the ability to tell stories.

Our history and cosmology are completely unique. Many concepts from Marvel, DC, Image, Top Cow, and other properties have been streamlined and integrated. Some aspects may be familiar while others have been radically changed. This is fodder for people who demand complex worldbuilding and consistency in their campaign systems.

Key Differences

  • Our timeline is set to present-day and is on a 1:1 timeframe with the date. Our Earth is culturally contemporaneous but technologically more advanced.
  • Metahumans have been in the public eye for nearly a century and mutants are the latest iteration of them.
  • Kara Zor-El is the first publicly known alien to visit Earth. In the last 30 years, many others have arrived and made themselves known. She founded the modern alliance of superheroes called The Watch.
  • Ambitious young heroes allied with members of The Watch assembled their own team, called the Titans. Original Titans are now mentoring the second generation.
  • The Xavier Institute offers adult supervision and education to metahumans who have no family or legal guardians.
  • The Demiurge is the sentient embodiment of life on Earth and many realms. Gaea and many Elder Gods settled around the Demiurge's influence. From them came Olympus, New Genesis, Asgard, and many other realms. These young deities were called New Gods.
  • Krypton nearly conquered the galaxy, until Asgard went on the attack to stop them.
  • A magical cataclysm called Ragnarok destroyed the World Tree and collapsed ancient Atlantis.
  • The earliest superhero team was the Defenders, active during World War II in opposition to the Axis metahumans called Purifiers. The Defenders laid the groundwork for later generations of heroes and vigilantes alike.
  • Many metahumans were forcibly relocated in 2006 with the Johnson-Kinsey Mutant Relocation Act.
  • The Xavier Institute funds a ‘Mutant Outreach’ program active in Mutant Town. It is known in the meta community as a safe place for mutants to live.
  • Aliens from worlds or nations not recognized by the United States may apply for residency under the Alien Resettlement Program.
  • The Watch is a team of superheroes from around the globe, affiliated with the United Nations. SHIELD is a joint NATO operation that locates, monitors, and controls alien artifacts and metahumans.

Grid

Grid will be minimalistic, approx 50 rooms in total between all IC grid rooms. Approx max of 4 rooms per major city (Rich area, business area, poor area, park as primary examples) though not required (could either be more or less), and after full launch as needed/requested by incoming player demand, grid can be expanded upon organically provided new rooms will indeed get usage.

RP will be allowed in an OOC RP room setting pre-approval, but will not be considered IC for any party until all chars involved are fully approved.

There will be a means of IC transportation to feasibly allow characters a fast and explainable method of movement between cities/countries on grid to cover large distances plausibly. Suggestion: Fast As Hell Bullet Train by Stagg Industries is one proposal.

RP Rooms will be added to facilitate any other required rooms, and some measure of desc code will be added to allow for optimal flexibility.

Groups

These are groups that are canonically present on opening day and/or included in timeline and pre-established. The game will welcome the formation of other canon groups not listed here, or player-inspired groups that form organically out of RP.

In order to prevent ‘group creep’ and consolidate RP, teams are kept deliberately small. Our unique canon means that certain groups or configurations of groups do not yet exist, so character histories may need to be modified accordingly.

Players are welcome and encouraged to create their own groups (3+ people or more required) for canonical or OC groups (such as Outsiders, Young Avengers, etc…). If Staff assistance is required, or player assistance (for example, Tony Stark helping to form the Young Avengers) it will be provided to make everything as smooth/easy as possible to the group’s vision within theme and reason.

  • Defenders -- Golden Age superhero team.
  • Mystics -- The various members of the mystical community.
  • The Watch -- The modern international superhero team.
  • X-Men -- A covert group of metahumans rights activists.
  • Titans -- A small team of metahumans with ambitions to become superheros.
  • Flash Family -- The associated extended family of metahumans with access to the Speed Force.
  • Bat Family -- The allies and associates of Batman.
  • SHIELD -- American forces helming a NATO operation to recover alien artifacts and pre-emptively intervene with hostile metahumans.
  • Spider Family -- An extended association of people metaphysically associated with the concept of 'spider'.
